Foundations of Forrest Yoga

Foundations of Forrest is designed both to prepare practitioners for a mixed-levels Forrest yoga class as well as assist those healing from injuries and chronic pain. The slower-paced class is mindfully and thoughtfully designed to relieve tension in the neck and shoulders, build core strength to reduce back pain, and generate a sense of calm and rejuvenation. Careful attention is paid in each posture to give both new and seasoned students awareness and knowledge of alignment, breath, and how to work with tension and injuries. Though this class is structured for beginners, all levels are encouraged and welcome!

This class has not started yet. Please check back for the start date*

Slow Flow is a more deliberate form of vinyasa style yoga which links breath with movement and alignment, at a slower pace, balancing challenging postures with quiet calm. Slow Flow is suitable for all levels.

Saturdays 11:30-12:30 pm ($5 Community Class)

Slow Flow

Forrest Yoga

Forrest Yoga is a core and breath-focused practice that works to integrate strength and fluidity into each movement. Starting off slow with pranayama practices and then building up mindfully, the practice encourages each person to experience each breath fully and find the freedom in standing in their own strength. This practice is great for those with injuries and general discomfort or pain, as alignment and safe sequencing is a primary focus. Noting that habits on the mat also show up as habits in life, Forrest Yoga encourages everyone to look closely at themselves with compassion and work in ways on the mat that can begin to change those habits. All bodies and all levels welcome.

*Room temperature is 75- 80 degrees.

Yoga of 12-Step Recovery

Yoga of 12-Step Recovery was created as a holistic model to address the physical, mental and spiritual dis-ease of addiction. Informed by the latest research in neuroscience and trauma healing, Y12SR “connects the dots” by combining the somatic approach of yoga with the cognitive approach of the 12-step recovery model – the most well-known addiction recovery program in the world, with millions of active practitioners.

Fridays 7:30-8:45pm

Restorative Yoga

This restorative practice will begin with meditation and then utilize props to release into poses. The class will include hands on assists to increase relaxation. This 75 minute gentle and supportive class will ease your mind and body.

Mondays 7:30-8:45pm

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga postures are low to the ground and are passively held for several minutes in order positively effect the deep layers of connective tissues in the body. Physical benefits of yin yoga include restoring and maintaining mobility to the joints, primarily between the naval and the knees. Energetically, Yin yoga opens the body’s meridian system, this allows body’s energetic flow and supports emotional equilibrium.  It allows you to tune in to the feedback provided by the body and choose a shape that best supports you; knowing that every body, every emotional state, and every mind is not the same. This practice emphasizes stillness and silence; preparing the body and mind for deeper experiences in meditation. Yin yoga, often referred to as “the other half of yoga”, is a complementary practice to more dynamic styles of yoga.

Flow Within

Embark on a meditative exploration of self as we move and breathe together. We focus on the ever-deepening process of listening to our bodies to determine what they need, how they want to move, and what best serves each of us. Cultivating holistic body awareness, we probe the boundaries of our comfort zones and seek to gently expand them. Modifications and energetic hands-on assists are conscientiously offered.

Mondays 6:30-7:45am
Wednesdays
days 6:30-7:45am

Spa Yoga

SPA yoga is a 75 min slow-flow, floor-based, whole-body sensory experience based on Fluid Yoga sequencing. By engaging all five of the senses with soft candlelight, soothing music, aromatherapy, lots of hands-on assists and a renewed awareness of taste (and sometimes chocolate!), SPA aligns practitioners with the inner wisdom of deep relaxation. The physical practice takes time to open the body’s subtle energy and prepares students to experience new depths of awareness in an extended, guided final relaxation. During SPA, you may opt in to extra hands on assists and massages, a calming candlelit room atmosphere, delightful scents and beautiful music in the background. Be prepared to feel like you just walked out of a SPA!

“I’ve been practicing Forrest Yoga with Karuna for close to a year now and I can honestly say it has done wonders for me. I started practicing while going through an especially tumultuous and stressful time in my life. Karuna takes her experience of nearly two decades along with her training in trauma sensitive yoga and carefully adjusts the practice to the needs of the student. Her classes are conducted professionally and at a steady pace. She puts a lot of planning and preparation into her classes and is careful not to go beyond the ability of the students. I cannot recommend this class highly enough and don’t know where I’d be right now without it.”

-Joshua L.

I have known Karuna as a colleague, a friend and a teacher.  In every role her joyful laugh and deep heart lead the way.  I happily write now about my experience in her uplifting yoga classes.

"As a student in Karuna's yoga classes I came with serious physical limitations but a strong sense of possibility inspired by her faith in our healing bodies.  As she affirms our healing potential Karuna gracefully balances the delicate line of sharing between student and teacher. She shares enough about her personal healing path to reinforce the message of personal humility yet still creates a respectful boundary for each student to listen to their own body's needs.  With that backdrop she then masterfully scaffolds each class from a quiet inner affirming beginning to a strongly grounded energized finish before shavasana.  I always leave with a sense of the earth as my friend and the elements as partners in the flow of the day.  Over my year and a half of always looking forward to Karuna's classes I have indeed grown stronger and more able.  The steady beauty of her teaching has supported my soul and my body to make the most of every healing opportunity that comes my way.  I have to believe that this is what yoga is meant to offer."
