Redefining Wellness: a Primer in Real Self-Care
4 Corners Yoga Wellness holds a safe healing space where everyBODY is welcome. We are curious, care deeply about self-care practices and open to learn life-style behaviors to heal, improve individual wellbeing and community health. We invite you to join us as we explore an idea of healing and wellness that includes a guide to setting boundaries, practicing self-compassion, aligning core values and embracing personal power.
Together we can claim our wellbeing and build a healing community.
Learning Objectives
Understand the sensation(s) and impact of trauma and stress on the body.
Identify personal anxiety triggers.
Know the difference between principles and methods of self-care.
Use breath to connect to the body.
Appreciate dialectical thinking: when two opposites can be true at the same time.
Recognize the difference between self-preservation and self-indulgence.
Learn techniques to empower self-compassion and empathy.
Value the importance of caring for oneself.
See the impact it has on others.
Reflect on what it means to redefine wellness.
Do you often feel exhausted and alone? Are you stressed and overwhelmed by feelings of dread? Tired of the quick fixes — the latest juice cleanses, diets, and exercise fads— to feel better?
You are not alone. Did you know that the Surgeon General of the United States has declared loneliness a National epidemic? Between the pandemic and tribal politics, in the last few years, there has been a 30-50% drop in socializing and hanging out together.
Feelings of loneliness is higher among BIPOC + LGBTQ individuals, especially teenagers. Single people have higher rates of loneliness than couples.
We will gather to discuss the impact of stress on the body, review book chapters, journal our reflections and learn simple breathe work to identify triggers and manage feelings of anxiety, depression and loneliness.
The book, Real Self-Care, A Transformative Program For Re-Defining Wellness, by Board-certified psychiatrist and New York Times contributor, Dr. Pooja Lakshimin, will be our guide. In this game-changing book, that explains that real-self care is internal, a self reflective process. Its not a thing to do, or to buy.
Its a way to be, and when we practice real self-care, we shift our perspective, relationships, in our work places and even our broken systems.
