Indigenous Recognition Welcome + Settle In
Town of Brookline, Today I sit in the which is located on the tribal homelands of the Massachusetts people. I acknowledge the continuing presence of the Massachusetts, and the neighboring Wampanoag and Nipmuc peoples. We also recognize the Indigenous peoples represented in my town's residents.
Town of Ogunquit, Today we will practice on the indigenous land of the great tribal nation of the Abenaki and they named where we practice today, Ogunquit- which means beautiful place by the sea, it was first a village within Wells, which was settled in 1641.
As we settle our breath and our bodies let’s take in a community breath in and a long sigh of thanks for those who have come before us and those we have lost along the way.
Guided Settle In meditation on wellness and wellbeing. -
Breath reveals so much about how we are feeling.
Just observe each inhale and exhale and notice what is your breath teaching you?
Where are you?
Is your breath slow, steady, quick, shallow, just observe.
Let your breath be your anchor.
We need an anchor for stability, let it be your breath.
Center yourself back into the present moment.
As you continue to breathe into each inhale and exhale.
I invite you to consider what wellness means to you?
We all come with different identities, experiences, perspectives, what does wellness mean to you right now.
What does it look like, feel like, smell, taste, look like?
what is your definition of wellness informed?
How does your experience inform your perspective?
What experiences do you bring to your space and those around?
Deep breath in and deep breath out.. In and out with a huge sigh. Give your heart some love, gently open our eyes if they are closed.
How do you feel? One or two check-in.
4 Corners Yoga + Wellness began as an inspiration in co-founders Christine Rose and Karuna O'Donnell's 10 X 10 foot shared space at The Meeting Point, A Center for Multidimensional Healing, in Jamaica Plain. Their individual businesses of massage and yoga were expanding beyond their shared room and they began to imagine a beautiful, vibrant, wellness center in Dorchester that could be both a thriving small business and widen access to those who could benefit from these resources yet can't readily afford these services. They have nurtured the idea of a body positive, welcoming, accessible and affirming community of wellbeing and are honored to be bringing their work forward together as 4 Corners Yoga + Wellness.
